Aireon's identity security success: precision for global air traffic

Aireon manages air traffic globally through 66 satellites, making split-second decisions that keep planes separated at 500 miles per hour. But with 2.5 million documents and permission chains extending 5-6 generations deep, they faced a daunting challenge: a manual security assessment would take 24,000 hours. As CISO Peter Clay puts it, "All breaches start with the most minute cracks"—and those documents had become "a superhighway into our environment." Watch this video to see how Aireon transformed their identity blind spots into robust security, gaining immediate visibility and critical access control in minutes with Oleria.

0:01: Aireon provides air traffic management globally. We have 66 satellites that provide air traffic control with eyes in places that they never had before.
0:11: We can tell you second by second where an aircraft is, the altitude, the elevation. We are making sure that there's integrity in the information we provide because they're making decisions with our data to separate air traffic at 500 miles an hour.
0:24: So it has to be right, it has to be accurate and it has to be on time. There's no other choice.
0:33: Our data is sensitive, ensuring that our intellectual property, our identity, and our processes are all kept safe and secure is a critical foundational piece of our cybersecurity program.
0:47: Visibility is key in cybersecurity and before Oleria, it was evident that we did not have good visibility over our document repository and user access.
0:57: We knew we had a significant issue—we didn't know how big the issue was.
1:01: We spent hours looking at different systems to see what we needed to mitigate, what we needed to change. With Oleria, we can do that in minutes.
1:10: Over the course of about 10 years we've created about 2.5 million documents. So in looking at that before Oleria we had documents that had been shared 5 and 6 generations out to people we had no visibility on, no understanding of what they were doing with the information, what are the privileges, what are the permissions, how are we protecting our employees' identity records?
1:33: Who has access to that? What happens if we lose control of that? That's a problem.
1:38: All breaches start with the most minute cracks.
1:42: Those documents became a superhighway into our environment. And so being able to control and deny that information to a potential attacker is critical, and that's the edge that Oleria gives us now. This is something we're working with Oleria on: a service account for doing specialized activities.
2:00: Oleria helps us manage our data and keep it secure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
2:07: Speed kills all problems. So it's just how fast can we adapt? How fast can we react? We could use that data and start building out workflows.
2:17: We could use document access as indicators of compromise. We've got a document that hasn't been touched in 2 years and all of a sudden this user is now accessing not only it but other documents that are very, very old. Is there something going on?
2:31: Rather than having to log into this environment, log into that environment, change the permissions here, change administrative access there, block things within the firewall. Being able to do it in a couple clicks within the area is the game changer.
2:43: Oleria has been a great partner and that's what we look for when we bring in new tools as partners. It really helps our customers have confidence in us. It'll provide you with the visibility. It'll provide you with the capability to manage your data. And it will save you thousands of hours of time.
2:57: Aireon’s security is everything.
2:59: We all fly. Our families fly. We want to be part of helping aviation be stronger and better.
3:06: We couldn't do what we do today without Oleria.
