Enterprise-Ready: Oleria Identity Security Accelerates at Scale
Wow, what a year it's been. From Oleria’s initial GA in April to where we are now, we’ve grown from a budding startup technology to an enterprise-scale solution that’s already helping complex organizations to solve identity security challenges continuously at scale — and innovate at the speed of business.
The numbers speak for themselves. In September, we reached another major milestone by successfully onboarding a Fortune 500 organization with over 400,000 production application accounts, millions of groups, roles, permissions and resources, and over a billion activity events. Our Trustfusion platform normalized distinct permission models and stitched these millions of data points together across a complex and layered identity ecosystem into a unified and intuitive identity graph.
Not bad for a platform that just launched a few months ago, right? And trust me, this is just the beginning.
A bold vision: Fixing what’s broken with legacy identity security
This kind of momentum only comes when you swing big on a bold idea, and we’ve had an audacious vision from day one: Fix what’s broken with legacy identity and access management (IAM) — and reimagine identity security for the smarter, faster, AI-enabled future.
We’re a group of experienced security practitioners, so we’ve felt the pains of the status quo firsthand: slow, notoriously inaccurate manual processes, blind spots where risks can hide, and investigations that take weeks when the CEO wants answers in minutes.
So, we built Oleria to give enterprises the visibility and control over identity and access they desperately need.
We started by creating technology that could replace all the manual work, fill in the blind spots caused by patchwork legacy technologies, and smooth out the friction points. Our platform establishes continuous integration with the apps you use every day — from your identity providers to your SaaS, on-prem, and cloud-platform — and gives you a crystal-clear holistic view of who has access to what and what they're doing with it, down to the individual resource level.
The ultimate goal is to intelligently automate more of the day-to-day monitoring and management work and give security and IT teams precisely what they need to make smart decisions about access and permissions — faster. We call that future state adaptive and autonomous security. It's a vision that's resonated with CISOs everywhere, and we’re watching our product — and our customers — move toward making that vision a reality.
Rapidly expanding our Trustfusion platform capabilities
The Oleria Trustfusion platform translates diverse permission models into a unified schema, continuously overlaying activity data. Since its launch in April, we've added powerful new capabilities to the platform.
We've enhanced Oleria's identity security solution by unifying centrally managed and locally managed access into a single composite access graph. It integrates centrally managed access data from identity providers, such as identities and groups, with application logs that capture usage, accounts, and resources. This foundational graph powers posture management, detection and response, and governance, driving a comprehensive identity security strategy for enterprises.
The new posture management dashboard gives you a clear picture of security vulnerabilities, from MFA gaps to dormant accounts. To make life easier for security teams, we've added remediation actions right within the Oleria workspace. We provide an action center that serves as your one-stop shop for tracking and managing all your remediation efforts. Now you can fix security issues without jumping through hoops.
We’ve also expanded our integrations, adding key connectors like ServiceNow, GitHub, Okta, and Entra ID so we can seamlessly integrate with even more of the tools you use every day. We now provide full visibility into third-party access to files in Microsoft Sharepoint Online, OneDrive, and Google Drive. Our access inventory feature allows organizations to track and manage external collaborators' permissions, enhancing security and mitigating risks for sensitive data shared with partners and vendors.
Doubling down on supporting the most complex enterprise environments — at scale and speed
Reimagining identity security in larger enterprise environments holds tremendous promise because the problems of legacy identity security are magnified by these big entities' size and complexity.
We’ve had several big wins this year tackling these enterprise-scale challenges: We already mentioned the Fortune 500 company we onboarded with more than 400,000 application accounts. For another customer, we’re monitoring more than 40 million resource instances and counting (such as files in a drive). And we’re helping one particularly fast-moving organization monitor roughly 70 million new activities every single work-day.
To support that kind of scale, we built the Oleria Trustfusion platform to be able to operate in both single- and multi-tenant models for very large customers. This ensures that very large customers with hundreds of thousands of employees can still be supported in a performant way. And we know that if we can provide that performance for complex global enterprises, we can effectively serve organizations of any size.
And as we continue to build out more capabilities and expand the functionality of Oleria, we’re also investing in the backend infrastructure to support the largest, most complex, and fastest-moving enterprises. That means continuously improving our ability to ingest larger amounts of data, support different ingestion types like events/logs, and serve data upon demand – an investment in people and resources at Oleria that delivers the critical visibility our users need.
Building across enterprise identity security categories
One of the other major pain points we’ve experienced as security operators is the swivel-chair challenge of managing a patchworked tech stack. Other vendors are trying to solve parts of this problem and help organizations move toward consolidating their identity tech stacks — but we see most falling short because they fail to deliver clear and complete visibility across all identity and access — including human and non-human, as well as on-prem, SaaS, and cloud.
Our future-ready identity security platform provides a breadth of capabilities across three essential enterprise identity security categories: ISPM, ITDR, and IGA. Here’s how the fundamental visibility provided by the Oleria Trustfusion platform (and the insights and action that visibility enables) equips organizations with unique capabilities to advance these three essential strategies:
- Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM): Oleria gives you a complete view of your identity security posture, helping you find and fix vulnerabilities like misconfigurations and weak MFA before attackers exploit them.
- Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR): Oleria provides the visibility and insights you need to detect and respond to identity-based threats faster, limiting damage and protecting your critical assets.
- Identity Governance and Administration (IGA): Oleria streamlines identity governance with automated workflows and comprehensive, contextual visibility, making it easy to manage access, enforce least privilege, and stay compliant.
The future is bright
We're just getting started at Oleria. We have an ambitious vision and an exciting roadmap, including even more intelligent features that will take identity security to the next level. We’re rapidly advancing toward our bold vision of autonomous identity security — technology that frees you to innovate and collaborate without limits, while confidently and continuously protecting that innovation and productivity.
Last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to our customers for their trust and partnership, as well as to all the CISOs, cybersecurity analysts, and other cybersecurity leaders who took time out of their busy lives to offer their thoughts, perspectives, and advice. We all know that successful identity security is a team effort, and Oleria’s success in reimagining identity security is no different.
We're incredibly proud of what we've accomplished this year, and we can't wait to see what the future holds.
