Key takeaways from Black Hat 2023: The future of access is adaptive

Black Hat 2023 provided a fantastic opportunity to engage with many industry experts as well as potential customers and investors. We were humbled by the opportunity to showcase Oleria's progress, and we want to thank everyone for all the time and attention they provided to us. These conversations highlighted the increasing challenges that security teams are facing to protect against the relentless surge of security breaches – which show no signs of slowing down– while enabling their businesses to continue to grow and innovate.

Our many discussions at the conference revealed a strong consensus around the need to take an adaptive, data-driven approach to access controls.  These conversations  also identified several best practices:

  • Organizations should adopt a strategy centered on using identity and risk data to enable greater business agility while enhancing protection.
  • Consider leveraging AI and automation to detect access anomalies and respond instantly before damage can occur.
  • Several customers highlighted the importance of securing user identities, networks, and endpoints through technologies like zero trust access.
  • Industry experts emphasized the need to continuously monitor entitlements and permissions to uncover misconfigurations that introduce risk.
  • Building a roadmap to implement autonomous responses that can revoke or limit access without waiting for human direction is crucial.
  • Enabling dynamic access that adapts appropriately as contexts evolve helps balance security and user productivity.

Listening to all conversations at Black Hat, one key factor contributing to the severity of breaches is the mismanagement of access privileges driven primarily by the lack of adequate technology solutions for managing access scale. Our reliance on manual access processes only compounds the difficulties we face as an industry. Effective access governance at scale requires autonomous orchestration rather than human-driven workflows. The modern business environment demands access solutions designed for agility and rapid innovation while enabling centralized governance and management of complex and decentralized technology environments.

These insights from Black Hat reinforce our belief that a new, software-centric approach is desperately needed - one anchored in identity and balances security with business agility. Oleria is pioneering adaptive access controls designed for these realities of the modern enterprise. Our autonomous system understands context and adapts access in real-time to mitigate risk.

And we go beyond just securing access. Our vision is to build “A world where every organization is trusted to protect the data of all people.” We aspire to deliver security solutions that liberate your business to innovate and operate efficiently while ensuring the highest protection levels. We are proud to be pioneering the future of access security with autonomy, intelligence, and real-time adaptation. Our system understands your environment to set optimal controls that balance security and productivity.

We are thrilled about all the engagement and feedback we received at Black Hat and are excited to embark on our strategic partnership journey with our pilot customers.
